Ji-hu (지후) pairs 智 (ji), 'wisdom', or 志 (ji), 'will', with 厚 (hu), 'generous, magnanimous', giving the meaning 'wise and warm-hearted'; less common but also used is the reading with 侯 (hu), 'noble, prince'. The final meaning always depends on the hanja registered. It was among South Korea's most chosen boys' names in the mid-2010s, overtaking more traditional names in popularity thanks to its short sound and its pleasant tone for international ears.
