Zoe comes from the ancient Greek zōḗ (ζωή), 'life,' a word used by early Greek-speaking Christians to render the name Eve and to speak of eternal life — holding a bright, auspicious message. Borne by several saints and by Byzantine empresses, it is now very popular in the English- and French-speaking worlds and appreciated in Italy, Germany and, of course, Greece.
