Herkunft und Bedeutung von Norma

Norma is rooted in the Latin norma, 'rule, standard', and was made famous by Vincenzo Bellini's opera of the same name, which gave it to its proud druid-priestess heroine. It thus evokes uprightness and dignity. Common in Italy, the English-speaking world and German-speaking lands especially in the twentieth century, it is now a slightly retro name with old-world charm. It keeps a full, elegant yet firm sound.
