Iolanda comes from Greek by way of the medieval French Yolande and traces back to elements meaning 'violet,' the flower: it therefore means 'violet,' a symbol of modesty and delicacy. Borne by European queens and princesses in the Middle Ages, and in Italy by Yolanda of Savoy, it keeps an aristocratic air. It is found in Italy and, as Yolanda and Yolande, in Spain and France, as well as Jolanda in Germanic regions.
