Clotilde comes from the Germanic Chlodhild, made of hlod, 'glory, fame,' and hild, 'battle': 'glorious in battle.' The name owes its fortune to Saint Clotilde, queen of the Franks and wife of Clovis, who played a decisive part in the king's conversion to Christianity. Found in France, Italy, and Spain, it has its original form in the French Clothilde. It blends warrior strength with aristocratic elegance, in an ancient, distinguished sound.
