Ali comes from the Arabic ʿAlī (علي), 'high, exalted, sublime', and is one of the divine attributes in Islamic tradition. The name carries immense historical and religious weight: it was borne by ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad and the fourth caliph, a central and revered figure of Islam.
