Veronica has two possible origins: from the Latin vera icon, 'true image,' linked to the veil with which Saint Veronica is said to have wiped Christ's face, or from the Greek Bereníke, 'bringer of victory.' The name thus unites the sacred and the victorious. Found in Italy, Spain, English-speaking and Eastern European countries, it also names an elegant blue flower.
