Silvana is the feminine of the Latin Silvano, from silva, 'wood, forest': it means 'she who belongs to the woodland,' with a serene, pastoral aura linked to Silvanus, the Roman god of forests. The name was much loved in Italy during the first half of the twentieth century and is still common in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries.
