Origen y significado de Santiago

Santiago was born in Spain from the fusion of 'Sant Iago' — Saint James, Iago being an old Iberian form of Jacob. It honours the apostle James the Greater, patron of Spain and goal of the famous pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. It therefore means 'Saint James'. Hugely popular across the Spanish-speaking world, from Spain to Latin America, it is also a well-known place name, like Chile's capital.
