Raimondo is Germanic in origin, from the compound Raginmund — ragin, 'counsel, wisdom,' plus mund, 'protection' — hence 'wise protector' or 'one who guards through counsel.' Brought to Italy by the Lombards and Normans, it is ancient and noble, with many European cognates such as Raymond and Raimundo.
