Origen y significado de Ofelia
Ofelia comes from the Greek ōphéleia, 'help, aid, usefulness', and was perhaps coined by the poet Jacopo Sannazaro in the Renaissance. Yet it owes its fame to William Shakespeare, who gave the name to the gentle, ill-fated heroine of Hamlet. Its meaning recalls generosity and support. Found in Italy and, as Ophelia and Ofélia, in the English- and Portuguese-speaking worlds, it is a rare, poetic name with a literary, wistful aura.
