Origen y significado de Leopoldo

Leopoldo is the Italian form of the Germanic Liutbald, from liut, 'people,' and bald, 'bold, brave': it means 'bold among the people, valiant leader.' Its later link to leo, 'lion,' reinforced a regal image. Borne by European emperors and sovereigns, and in Italy venerated in Saint Leopold Mandić, a confessor friar, it remains fairly rare today. It is found in Italy, Spain and Germanic regions, where the form Leopold prevails.
