Isidora is the feminine of the Greek Isídoros, made of the Egyptian goddess Isis and dôron, 'gift': hence 'gift of Isis.' A name of ancient Mediterranean charm, it blends Egyptian and Hellenic spirituality. Rare and sought-after, it is found mainly in Italy, Greece and the Hispanic world. In the variant Isadora it was made famous by the dancer Isadora Duncan, a pioneer of modern dance.
