Iolanda comes from Greek by way of the medieval French Yolande and traces back to elements meaning 'violet,' the flower: it therefore means 'violet,' a symbol of modesty and delicacy. Borne by European queens and princesses in the Middle Ages, and in Italy by Yolanda of Savoy, it keeps an aristocratic air.
