Origen y significado de Erasmo

Erasmo comes from the Greek Erasmós, from erán, 'to love': it means 'lovable, worthy of love'. The name unites learning and affection, illustrated by Erasmus of Rotterdam, the great humanist and philosopher who wrote In Praise of Folly. Christian tradition also remembers Saint Erasmus (Saint Elmo), patron of sailors. Used in a cultured, rare way in Italy, Spain and Portugal, abroad it is known in the Latin form Erasmus.
