Costantino descends from the Latin Constantinus, derived from Constans, 'constant, steadfast'. The name is bound forever to Constantine the Great, the Roman emperor who granted Christianity freedom with the Edict of Milan in 313 and founded Constantinople. That historic prestige spread it throughout Christendom. Today it appears in Italy and the Spanish-speaking world, while Constantin and Konstantin are common across Eastern Europe.
