Clotilde comes from the Germanic Chlodhild, made of hlod, 'glory, fame,' and hild, 'battle': 'glorious in battle.' The name owes its fortune to Saint Clotilde, queen of the Franks and wife of Clovis, who played a decisive part in the king's conversion to Christianity.
